Putting them to use

Since I have realized what the Gunas are, I have put them into practice in certain areas to enhance or better my life. One example is at work. I am a collection agent and deal with people who are not in their most "giving" state, on a daily basis. I've started to notice which type of people are more Rajastic or Tamasic, and then I can try to counteract that energy with my words and delivery. This helps me collect better and allows me to connect to people to a certain degree.

Back to the Basics

We learned about the three Gunas. The first one is Rajas which is the spiral and forward & back movement. Rajas is energetic and it reminds me of someone who constantly has something to say, they are always going. The second is Tamas, which we related to Eeyore a lot in class. The energy is focused, planted and includes upward & downward motion. The last Guna is Sattva. Sattvic movement is from side to side. Sattva brings peace & centering. It is the balance of life and brings harmony.

Seeing the Gunas

Only when I take a step back do I begin to see the Gunas; in other people, in the weather, in the body, music, art, emotions... They truly are everywhere. I notice them especially in regards to my daily movement. A significant portion of my day is spent sitting at a desk in front of a computer (Tamasic energy), and while I work my brain during this time, my body doesn't get much movement. I find that when I to let out Raja later in the day, through exercise, I am much more in Sattva (in many senses) by the end of the day than I would have been otherwise. It is amazing to see the Tamas & Rajas come together to create the beauty of the Sattva.
